Nature Photography Holidays

No Single Supplement. Excludes Flights.

Our Nature Photography Holidays are based in and around the spectacular Ordesa National Park in the Spanish Pyrenees, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area is also a UNESCO Geopark, a site of particular geological importance. This combination provides a unique location for our Nature Photography Holidays.
As well as landscape shots, there will be the opportunity to photograph flowers and wildlife. You will be under the expert eye of professional wildlife, and conservation photographer Iñaki Relanzón.

The group size is limited to 7 photographers, so we guarantee there will be plenty of one to one tuition. Our nature photography holidays are suitable for all abilities, from the beginner to the professional photographer.

All the photos on this page are taken by photographers who took part in one of our Nature Photography Holidays, or by Iñaki Relanzón.

Nature Photography Holidays Itinerary

The itinerary below represents a typical week on one of our Nature Photography Holidays. We do make changes to the itinerary for the Autumn. This ensures we get the best shots of the spectacular colours. Our daily excursions will take us in and around the Ordesa National Park.

The decision of exactly where we go on a particular day will be decided by Iñaki, Simon and Lucy. This will depend a great deal on the weather. Especially the light conditions. See our Pyrenees Weather Forecast for a better idea of what to expect (we send a recommended kit list when you book).

Any changes to the itinerary will always be done to maximise the best use of time. This will ensure you have a full and varied holiday.

DAY 1 Nature Photography Holidays: Saturday

Arrival at Casa Allué, Albella. A welcome drink and time to meet Iñaki and your hosts Simon and Lucy along with the rest of the group.
After dinner, over a coffee, there will be a short presentation on the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, and the week ahead.

During the week we will learn how to set a camera trap. It is always exciting to discover what visitors have been in the garden at night! Something we do each day over breakfast.

DAY 2 Nature Photography Holidays: Sunday

• After breakfast we walk from the door, out and about in the village of Albella. We will move straight on to taking photos with Iñaki, and will establish the levels within the group. An opportunity to photograph insects, flowers and landscape. The beauty of our small group means it will feel very much like one-to-one tuition, so a mixture of levels really doesn't matter.
• Lunch at the farmhouse.
• After lunch we depart for the mountains and Basa de la Mora. The magical lake of the Moorish Woman. Here we put into practice what we have learnt in the morning. A short walk brings us to one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the central Pyrenees. Evening picnic at the lake.
• Return to Albella for refreshments and bed.

DAY 3 Nature Photography Holidays: Monday

• Today we depart for the spectacular Canyon of Añisclo. A perfect place for butterflies. The scenery is spectacular. Cliffs 1000m high tower above us, thundering waterfalls echo around us and beautiful green pools break the flow of the Rio Bellos. We will visit a cave and learn some light painting techniques. Picnic lunch.
• In the afternoon we visit the historic town of Ainsa to take photos of the medieval plaza and the narrow streets. There will be an opportunity for a drink at one of the many cafes.
• Return to Albella for our evening meal.
• Over coffee there will be a presentation by Iñaki, a showcase of some of his work.
• Afterwards we go outside to learn about night time photography.

DAY 4 Nature Photography Holidays: Tuesday

• Breakfast
• Today we visit an area that supports the highest population in Europe of the magnificent Lammergeier (Bearded Vulture). In the morning we all walk to a number of viewing balconies. Here we hope to spot and photograph these birds, as well as Griffon vultures.
• Lunch at a mountain restaurant that sits perched on the hillside.
• In the afternoon we do a short circular walk to photograph an 11th century chapel, with a dramatic setting. On route we will also stop to photograph a megalithic structure.
• Return to Albella for our evening meal & briefing over coffee.

DAY 5 Nature Photography Holidays: Wednesday

• Breakfast.
• We depart for the magnificent Valley of Ordesa. Our walk takes us along the valley, following the beautiful River Arazas.  Gradually we climb, stopping to photograph a series of spectacular waterfalls, culminating in the Grados de Soaso (stepped waterfalls). There will also be macro opportunities with a plethora of insects. Picnic lunch.
• After lunch we have the option to continue the walk emerging from the canyon to see Monte Perdido, the open valley and the Circo de Soaso (a half-open steep-sided hollow at the head of the valley formed by glacial erosion). We walk to the Cola de Caballo (horse tail falls) at the head of the valley before returning to the pradera car park and a drink.
• Return to Albella for our evening meal & briefing over coffee.

DAY 6 Nature Photography Holidays: Thursday

• Breakfast
• The final day with Iñaki. Today we spend a full day in the Tena Valley. We will be in search of orchids and marmots. We are sure to photograph a myriad of wild flowers as June is the perfect month. Picnic lunch in the mountains.
• In the afternoon we return to the farmhouse for a drink and a presentation by Iñaki on work flow, photo processing and management.
• Refreshments, a recap of the week, and time to say goodbye to Iñaki.
• Our evening meal & briefing over coffee.

DAY 7 Nature Photography Holidays: Friday

• Early breakfast.
• Depart for the Valle of Bujaruelo, to photograph the beautiful medieval bridge of San Nicolás de Bujaruelo. After a coffee by the river we go to Torla. An opportunity to photograph some of the medieval Aragonese architecture. Time for some souvenir shopping.
• Lunch at a tapas bar in Torla.
• In the late afternoon/evening there is a 4x4 excursion. One of the photographic highlights of the week. We will go to five dramatic view points. There are amazing panoramic views across to Monte Perdido and Brecha de Roland. As well as landscape photography we will be on the look out for Chamois, Marmots and raptors.
•Return to Albella for a light supper, coffee, and chat about the week that was.

DAY 8 Nature Photography Holidays: Saturday

• Breakfast.
• A flexible timetable depending on departure times. A light lunch or a picnic is available. We also have the option to visit the ermita of San Urbez in the village.

Photographic focus
Wildlife photography is a very specialist area requiring appropriate equipment and facilities. Hides, time, camouflaging and patience. We will have the opportunity to both see and photograph wildlife. However, the nature of this holiday means that the photography will inevitably focus on 'fixed' specimens.

Please note this is strictly a non-smoking holiday.

“There was a mix of subjects from landscapes to wildlife to macro, plus much much more.”

Richard. Lancashire July 2015.
