There can be few better places than the Spanish Pyrenees for Mountain and Trail Running Holidays in Europe. We organised our first Trail Running Holiday in the central Spanish Pyrenees in September 2016, and we have now published our 2017 dates.
Runners stayed at our guesthouse, Casa Allué in the tiny farming hamlet of Albella, very close to the National Park of Ordesa.
The week was a resounding success with runners coming from as far away as Australia. International flight connections were not a problem as there is a high speed rail link connecting Barcelona, Madrid and Zaragoza, where we meet our guests (alternatively the drive from Barcelona is 3½ hours).
Other runners arrived from Scotland and England, using the Ryanair flight from London Stansted to Zaragoza.
Having collected everyone from Zaragoza the transfer to Casa Allué was about 2 hours.
We limited the running places to a maximum of 7, ensuring there was a good ratio of running guides to runners (we have two guides). This in turn meant we could look after runners of mixed abilities. In fact in 2016 we had a real mix of runners, from experienced trail runners to those just wanting to find out what trail running was all about.
As I write this post there are now only 6 running places available!
Our Trail Running Holiday is also a little bit different as we really encourage non-running partners to come along.
For non-running partners we offer a fully guided walking week, with one of our handpicked local mountain guides.
We only have places for 5 walking partners so book early and contact us to avoid disappointment.
This option to walk also enables runners to switch and have a rest day, whilst not missing out on the amazing scenery. This was really appreciated by the runners in 2016.
Gillian, an experienced off road runner from Glasgow summed up the week:
“This holiday far exceeded what I was expecting in a trail running holiday. I’m struggling to pick any one run as the best one, as each one had something a bit special. The word “WOW” was used a lot! If you like trail running, you’ll love this holiday.”
Runners and walkers are well looked after. We provide pack lunches and nutritious well balanced meals. The majority of the vegetables come from our own organic vegetable patch, everything is carefully prepared by us in our catering kitchen.
For runners we also provide energy and recovery drinks.
Rob, a road runner from Milton Keynes said:
“The food was fantastic and plentiful, which given the appetite that I developed, was great news!”

Jonathan Worswick led our Trail Running Holiday 2016, supported by our local running guide Guillem Sancho Torné.
Jonathan is an Ultra Trail athlete, running coach and is quite simply nuts about running. He stayed with us in 2015, on his on his way to compete in the 110km Ultra Trail Pirineu. He was bowled over by the choice of trails, the lack of people, the wildlife and the incredible scenery that we have here on our doorstep.

Jonathan will be back in 2017. The dates are set, 16th-23rd September, and we already have a repeat booking for 2017.
Whether you are training for an event such as a Sky Race (the 2016 Skyrunning World Championships were held at the nearest main town), Ultra Trail or Fell, you enjoy being in the mountains, or you just fancy giving trail running a go then this holiday will fit the bill.
Jonathan will be writing regular posts leading up to our Trail Running Holiday. In these he will cover all aspects of trail running.
