“We have just returned from a weeks snow shoeing and winter walking with Aragon Active. From the wall to wall sunshine to the wonderful walking and views we had a relaxing but invigorating week.” Elizabeth. Cambridge. UK

Our Snowshoeing Holidays Pyrenees are the perfect tonic if you are looking to escape the grey days of winter.
We are based in the heart of the Spanish Pyrenees, a perfect location to combine snowshoe walking in and around the National Park of Ordesa with guided walks in the Natural Park of Sierra de Guara.
Snowshoe walking is a fantastic way to discover the real Pyrenees, in all their wild splendour.

Our Snowshoeing Holidays Pyrenees are 6 day programs of guided walks.  By combining snowshoe walking with winter walks we have much more flexibility with the weather, enabling us to make the right activity choice on any particular day.
We are Simon and Lucy, your hosts for the week, and you will be staying at our beautiful renovated farmhouse.

The daily excursions are about enjoying this spectacular place where we live, there will be plenty of stops, time to take photos, look at nature or just marvel at the scenery that surrounds us.

It doesn’t matter if this is your first time snowshoeing, our local Expert Guide will be on hand to help.

The group size is limited to a maximum of 8 people.

Why not organise a group of friends! With a minimum of 6 people we can make this a private, tailor made holiday.

Accommodation

The base for our Snowshoeing Holidays Pyrenees is our 17th century farmhouse, Casa Allué. It nestles on the hillside in the small farming hamlet of Albella, within the Pyrenees Geopark and close to the National Park of Ordesa and the Natural Park of Sierra de Guara.

The Farmhouse

We undertook a major restoration project to transform Casa Allué into both a family home and a “must stay” destination.

The transformation complete, we have created a home from home.  The bedrooms are spacious with luxury en suite bathrooms and thermostatic rain showers. All have mountain views with plenty of natural light.  Four have stone balconies, perfect for star gazing, as the night skies here are breathtaking.
Each room is named after the wildlife that surrounds the house.

“The rooms have been sympathetically renovated, retaining beautiful original features whilst providing a sophisticated en suite bathroom. I could enjoy beautiful views across the valley, gaze at the starlit sky and listen to the natural nightlife. Just fantastic in itself.”

Louise. Lewes. Oct 2017.

We love to cook and we prepare all your meals using only locally sourced, or our own organic produce.  We can cater for all dietary requirements. The flavour is definitely Spanish, but often with a twist!
But it’s not just the accommodation and food that make our holidays stand out! See our section What Makes Us Different!
And for more information on our farmhouse, Casa Allué, visit our page Guest House Accommodation.

“And the food! Our meals were superlative and our picnic lunches were every bit as wonderful. Our stay at Casa Allué was definitely a highlight of our trip to Spain.”

How to Get to Albella

When considering the options below why not add on a couple of nights to include a city break.

Flying to Zaragoza

Our nearest airport is Zaragoza. Ryan Air offer flights all year round from London Stansted.
Arrival time in Zaragoza is normally 16.40 and departure 17.05. We do offer a pick up and drop off service – see below.

Flying to Barcelona (El Prat) & Madrid

Barcelona and Madrid are hubs for international flights from outside Europe. If you are arriving from the USA, Canada, Australia or another international destination these are the best options.

There are also flights from many UK airports. All the low cost airlines fly to both cities.

If you are looking for cheap flights try  Momondo or Skyscanner.

Transfers

We can provide transfers from both Zaragoza airport and Zaragoza train station, the cost is €70 return.  Our pick up and drop off times are below.

Pick-up: 17:00 airport / 17:15 train station.

Drop-off: 15:00 train station / 15:15 airport.

The journey time for the high speed AVE train from Barcelona-Sants and Madrid to Zaragoza-Delicias is approximately 1½ hours.
To find train times and prices try the  Renfe train logo on How to get to Albella site direct or GoEuro. The latter also gives times and prices for travel by bus and car.
Prices by train are approximately 90 euros return from either Barcelona or Madrid.  Trains can be booked 3 months in advance.
Be aware that paying with a foreign credit card can be problematic, however, using the same card via PayPal is very straightforward – we speak from experience and are here to help if you run into problems!

From Zaragoza it is two hours to our base in the Pyrenees.

Transfers from other airports can be arranged and would be charged on a pro rata basis.

Just Some of Our Reviews for this Holiday…

“We have just returned from a weeks snow shoeing and winter walking with Aragon Active. From the wall to wall sunshine to the wonderful walking and views we had a relaxing but invigorating week. Lucy and Simon were knowledgeable and enthusiastic hosts, everything from wildlife and history to culture and the geological features of the region. They provided delicious food for lunch and in the evening and were most welcoming of us into their home and way of life. Exactly what I was looking for in a small group, away from the crowds mountain holiday.”

“Really enjoyed my week in Aragon and living in Lucy and Simon’s beautiful home. We were fed delicious home cooked food, much of which had been grown on their own allotments. We were taken on stunning walks to places we would not have found on our own and shared special moments identifying wildlife, interesting geology, and ancient places of worship. Delightful evenings relaxing by the log fire and flopping gratefully into bed after a hard day’s walking and a great dinner. Loved the peaceful remoteness of Albella, 6km down a desterted country lane.”

“My mum and I stayed with Aragon Active in February on the snowshoeing & walking holiday. For both of us it was our first time snowshoeing and our first time in the Pyrenees and both were remarkable.
We were spoilt with sunshine everyday. The walks were so diverse from broad snowy mountain tops, snow filled valleys, and forest walks to almost Mediterranean scenery, with rich cultural sites, amazing geology and stunning gorges. This part of the Pyrenees is outstanding for walking; it’s stunningly beautiful.”

Ellen. Brisbane. Australia. Snowshoeing Holiday February 2017

Ellen descends on snowshoes on our Snowshoeing Holidays Pyrenees

“We spent an unforgettably wonderful week at Casa Allué on a Walking and Snowshoeing holiday. We were warmly welcomed by our perfect hosts Lucy and Simon for whom nothing was too much trouble. Throughout our stay they shared their passion and knowledge of the area and their attention to detail was impeccable.
Our accommodation was a large tastefully renovated stone farmhouse set in a quiet peaceful hamlet. The bedroom was exquisite complete with a small balcony which afforded amazing views of the Pyrenees. The bathrooms were modern and well appointed. Food was delicious, locally sourced and presented with panache!
Daily excursions to different locations were very well thought out and planned, taking full account of the weather. Our mountain guide was knowledgeable, attentive and professional with a great sense of humour. Whilst walking through stunningly beautiful and varied scenery we learnt about geology and wildlife and other interesting topics that made the whole day extremely enjoyable.

We would unreservedly recommend both Aragon Active holidays and Casa Allué as a base from which to explore this beautiful area.”
