About Us
Meet your hosts
Simon & Lucy
Our commitment to local people, culture and the environment was recognised when we were awarded a grant under a European initiative for the preservation of rural communities.
Our delicious meals are prepared with love and great care by us. In season vegetables come from our own organic veg garden, and Lucy’s home-made bread is famous!
From our Responsible Travel Initiatives and work with the Bearded Vulture Foundation, to our geothermal heating, photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting, we are passionate about conservation and the preservation of the environment.
Home Grown and Organic
“The food was a highlight in itself. Nearly everything we ate was either grown in their garden or sourced very locally, which made each meal both delicious and deeply connected to the place.”
Sally Jones. UK. Cooking & Walking Holiday
Stay in Comfort
During our renovation project we have tried to think of everything for your comfort and enjoyment, without losing the feel of a traditional Pyrenean farmhouse.
It continues to be a labour of love, in this magical place we are lucky enough to call home
“The accommodation was superb, away from mass tourism in the beautifully renovated 17th century farmhouse.” Droplaug. Finland
“A beautifully renovated farmhouse, meticulously restored in authentic detail”. Tim. UK
FAMILY ATMOSPHERE
A very warm welcome awaits all our guests. In fact, from the moment you arrive we welcome you as friends. During your stay our house is your home, and we encourage all our guests to treat it as such.
PERSONAL TOUCH
We love what we do. This shows in the unique personal service we offer, and the attention to detail when planning our itineraries or choosing our guides for each of our Small Group Holidays. We care about your comfort and your stay. We want our holiday to be the one you remember.
FULLY INCLUSIVE
Your holiday includes everything: afternoon tea, pre-dinner drinks, 3 course meals, carefully selected local wine, coffee, infusions, breakfasts and lunches. Even restaurant meals and refreshments when you are out. Therefore, you only need to bring cash to buy gifts, make a voluntary donation, or to tip one of our guides.
UNIQUE SETTING
The tiny farming hamlet of Albella is a magical place to live. The farmhouse is surrounded by nature. We have everything, geology, history, culture and customs, flora and fauna. In fact, we live in the UNESCO Geopark of Sobrabre, a site of geological interest. This used to be the beach!!
RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL
We take our environmental and social responsibility very seriously. From restoration work to direct financial support for local projects. Our love of nature goes hand in hand with our commitment to environmental issues.
Responsible Travel
We take our environmental and social responsibility very seriously.
Local Responsibility
A SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS
Our entire valley has suffered from economic migration and depopulation since the 1960’s. We aim to help sustain the life in our tiny hamlet and region, encouraging people from overseas to come all year round and not just during the peak Spanish holiday season.
On all our holidays we employ local guides and specialists.
PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS
We have installed 18 photovoltaic panels. By doing so we avoid the emission of 6.5 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.
The excess electricity is put pack into the grid, adding to the green energy available for other users.
GEOTHERMAL WATER & HEATING
All our hot water and our underfloor heating is from our geothermal heat source pump.
We use the ambient temperature under ground. We have 3 bore holes in the garden each 100m deep.
BEARDED VULTURE CONSERVATION
On all our holidays we give an insight into the work carried out by the conservation group, Foundation for the Protection of the Bearded Vulture (FCQ).
We also sponsor this Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) financially each year.
UNESCO GEOPARK PARTNER
As a Geopark Partner we work on a local level to promote and support the Pyrenees Geopark, a UNESCO site of particular geological importance. The aim is to increase the awareness of the Geopark as well as educate visitors on how we can best protect the landscape.
Lucy is a qualified guide for the Geopark.
RESTORATION PROJECTS
Our 16th century village chapel of San Úrbez is a landmark in our area. During our Small Group Holidays Lucy offers a guided visit, the only thing we ask in return is a donation in the collection box! This helps with the ongoing restoration work of this historic building and its contents (some of our old terracotta floor tiles have been used to replace a section of floor in the chapel).
PAPERLESS!
We do not have a paper brochure to minimize paper consumption and postal air miles.
Our publicity is internet based. We therefore hope you have found this website to be comprehensive, providing all the detailed information you need. However, if you feel we can improve the site in any way please Contact Us.
ORGANIC & ZERO KM
We supply as many as the vegetables as we can from our organic garden. Not only very healthy, but also Zero km!
To maintain soil health we also have a “No Dig” policy.
We love talking about our organic vegetable patches and good practice, helping spread the word,
RECYCLE & REUSE
All vegetable matter is composted to be used in the vegetable gardens.
All inorganic waste is taken to the local recycling bins. We also encourage our guests to recycle card, paper, (once used on both sides), plastics, cans, tins and glass.
Our philosophy of recycling includes building materials and furniture.
