Mountain and Trail Running Holidays in Europe
There can be few better places than the Spanish Pyrenees for Mountain and Trail Running Holidays in Europe. We organised our first Trail Running Holiday in the central Spanish Pyrenees in September 2016, and now we run our Trail Running Holiday every year.
Our guesthouse is the base for this holiday, Casa Allué, in the tiny farming hamlet of Albella, very close to the National Park of Ordesa.
Runners come from as far away as Australia. International flight connections were not a problem as there is a high speed rail link connecting Barcelona, Madrid and Zaragoza, where we meet our guests (alternatively the drive from Barcelona is 3½ hours).
If coming from the UK then the Ryanair flight is direct from London Stansted to Zaragoza.
We limit the running places, ensuring there is a good ratio of running guides to runners (we have two guides). This in turn means we can accommodate runners of mixed abilities. In fact in 2016 we had a real mix of runners, from experienced trail runners to those just wanting to find out what trail running was all about.
Our Trail Running Holiday is also a little bit different as we really encourage non-running partners to come along.
We offer a fully guided walking week for non-runners, with one of our handpicked local mountain guides.
We have limited places for walking partners so book early and contact us to avoid disappointment.
This option to walk also enables runners to switch and have a rest day, whilst not missing out on the amazing scenery.
Gillian, an experienced off road runner from Glasgow summed up the week:
“This holiday far exceeded what I was expecting in a trail running holiday. I’m struggling to pick any one run as the best one, as each one had something a bit special. The word “WOW” was used a lot! If you like trail running, you’ll love this holiday.”
Runners and walkers are well looked after. We provide pack lunches and nutritious well balanced meals. The majority of the vegetables come from our own organic vegetable patch, everything is carefully prepared by us in our catering kitchen.
For runners we also provide energy and recovery drinks.
Rob, a road runner from Milton Keynes said:
“The food was fantastic and plentiful, which given the appetite that I developed, was great news!”
You can read Rob’s and Gillian’s full reviews on our Trail Running Holiday page.
Jonathan Worswick leads our running holiday supported by a local running guide. Jonathan is an Ultra Trail athlete, running coach and is quite simply nuts about running. He stayed with us in 2015, on his on his way to compete in the 110km Ultra Trail Pirineu. He was bowled over by the choice of trails, the lack of people, the wildlife and the incredible scenery that we have here on our doorstep.
Whether you are training for an event, enjoy being in the mountains, or you just fancy giving trail running a go then our Trail Running Holiday will fit the bill.
